Solas An Lae School of American Irish Dance

The School

New York's groundbreaking educational and performance institution of American Irish Dance.

Founded by Deirdre Lowry in 1998

The School of American Irish Dance integrates multiple styles of training to create a curriculum that is uniquely SAL. Fundamentally, the program covers traditional Irish dance from the beginner through advanced and the best practices and disciplines of classical ballet and contemporary dance.  We have gone many steps further incorporating a modern understanding of human anatomy and physiology to minimize dance related injuries while maximizing strength, endurance and flexibility.

The training at the Solas An Lae School of American Irish Dance has been designed into levels appropriate to the age, maturity and dance expertise of each student. Students will elevate to higher levels at the conclusion of each year, in a systematic and progressive manner.

The Program

The Solas An Lae Dance Program offers complete and comprehensive dance courses at Beginner levels through advanced in four seasonal semesters throughout the year. Classes feature hands on instruction by SAL’s Artistic Director, Deirdre Lowry and assisted by members of the SAL Dance Company.  Special workshops are taught by guest faculty to augment the curriculum. All classes are fused with Irish traditional, classical & contemporary music. The scores utilized in class have been selected for there diversity in tempo, feel, instrumentation, complexity, lyricallity as well as it’s just fun to dance too. All the music is chosen specifically to enhance and inspire a well rounded dancer.
